About Appalachia Today™

Appalachia Today™ is a website devoted to news, travel, events, music, culture, and history in the Appalachian Mountains. The site was founded in 2025 by Casey Nicholson of Greeneville, Tennessee.

Our Mission

The mission of Appalachia Today™ is threefold:

  1. To promote Appalachian community development in the 21st century by reporting on news, events, and travel throughout the Appalachian region.

  2. To connect the contemporary Appalachian region with its rich history and culture, highlighting the people, places, and traditions that shape Appalachian life.

  3. To broaden the understanding of Appalachia by connecting the region traditionally understood as the central and southern Appalachian Mountains—including coal country in the west and the Blue Ridge Mountains in the east—with the wider mountain communities stretching from the Deep South to New England and the Canadian Appalachians.

Appalachia Today™ does not publish sponsored articles or advertorial content, and editorial coverage is not offered in exchange for payment.

While Appalachia Today™ may participate in monetization programs on third-party social media platforms where its content is shared, any advertising displayed on those platforms is controlled by the platforms themselves and not by Appalachia Today™. Such activity helps support the continued operation of the website while keeping appalachatoday.com free to access.
